[Essay 24] Essay ARGUMENT - Printed books

Essay - Printed books (ARGUMENT essay)
(essay not checked by professional teacher)

Some people say that with the development of modern technology printed books, newspapers and magazines lose their importance. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

With development of science and technology it is possible nowadays to use other sources of information instead of printed books and other publications. Some people believe that the importance of printed materials is much lower than it was in the past. I partially agree with this viewpoint.

[PROS - books lose their importance]
In today's world printed books and newspapers are not as necessary as they were in the past because in the Internet era almost all information can be found on the web. For example, there are specialized websites with news, forums or even encyclopedias. If someone is looking for information, uses Google search engine for that. In addition, even at schools children are taught using computers and in some schools printed books were not even introduced. Besides that, there is a huge market of e-books which you can download to your e-book reader for free or buy on websites such as Amazon.com.

[CONS]
Nevertheless, printed books or magazines have many advantages. Firstly, they are used for teaching young kids, especially below 4-years-old. In this case electronic devices are not as useful as printed materials with images. Additionally, a huge group of older people like reading morning newspapers drinking coffee meanwhile. This is like a ritual for them and this is why they will never use iPods or e-books instead.

To sum up, printed books and press in general have a huge competition from internet websites and e-books. I am inclined to believe that always there will be real readers with love and passion to printed version of books or magazines.
