[Essay 11] Task 2, Discussion Essay - Art or Environment (amended)

Essay - Art or environment (Discussion essay)

A company is going to give some money either to support the art or to protect the environment. Which do you think the company should choose? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Supporting the arts and protecting our environment are always welcomed by all people and companies. I am inclined to believe that in all situations, money should first go towards  saving our environment and I am going to prove my point of view below.

[ENVIRONMENT]
The environment has a strong influence on people's health. Living in an unpolluted environment is necessary for our well being. For example, living in big cities with heavy smog can cause headaches and different psychological problems. Money could  be spent, for instance, on inventing special filters against car fumes. Furthermore, companies should do everything possible to preserve tropical forests in as good a condition as possible. Our children will thank us because they will breathe fresh air.

[ART]
Art is usually supported by its lovers and art collectors. There are situations where some art is being sold at auction for  millions of dollars. Today's artists are not an endangered species. They usually know how to earn money for living. Besides the young artists, most people in this profession are  quite rich and this is the reason why additional support for them is not necessary.

[OPINION]
Giving money to the needy or to support the art is always admirable. Nature is really in desperate need. Artists can look after themselves but the environment must relies on us. Companies should do their best to protect it in every way including giving donations.
