IELTS Speaking - topics, part 2

Something You Did to Help

Describe something you did to help a neighbour *

You should say:

what you did

when you did it

who you helped

and explain how you felt after (or, when) you gave this help. *

An Indoor Game You Played in Your Childhood

Describe an indoor game that you played when you were a child.

You should say:

what the game was

who you played it with *

how you played it *

and explain why you played that game. *

A Foreign Film You Enjoyed

Describe a foreign film that you enjoyed watching. *

You should say:

what type of film it was

who the actors were

what the film was about *

and explain what you liked (and possibly disliked) about this film.

A Famous Foreign Person

Describe a famous person (still living), not from your country, who you would like to meet.

You should say:

where this person comes from

how you first learned about him or her

(or: how you know about this person)

why / how this person is famous

and explain why you would like to meet this person

A Group Activity

Describe something you did with a group of people.

You should say:

what you did

when you did it.*

who the other people were

how you prepared for this activity *

and explain why you did it in a group *

A Traffic Jam

Describe a time when you had to wait in a traffic jam.

You should say:

when and where it happened

how long you were in the traffic jam

[where you were going at that time *]

[what form of transport you were using *]

what you did while waiting (possibly: what you did about the situation)

and explain how you felt when you were in that traffic jam. *

A Band or Singer

Describe a band or singer who you like.

You should say:

what style of songs they sing

when you listen to them

where you listen to them

and explain why you like this band or singer.

A Meal

Describe a meal you invited others to (in your home or in a restaurant)

You should say:

when you had this meal.

where you had it

what you ate and drank

and explain why you invited people to this meal

A Project or Homework Assignment

Describe a project or homework assignment that you did. *

You should say:

when you did this project or assignment *

how difficult this project or assignment was

how much time you spent on this project or assignment

and explain what you learned from this experience. *

A Sportsperson

Describe a sportsperson from your country who did well in an event.

You should say:

who this person was

what the event was

what sport it was

when and where this event took place *

and explain why you liked his/her performance.

Good Service

Describe an occasion when you received good service from a company or shop. *

You should say:

what company or business it was and what this company does *

what the service was

who gave you the good service (or, who helped you)

where you received this good service

and explain explain why you think it was good service.

A Long Journey

Describe a long trip that you went on (or, that you enjoyed) *

You should say:

.where you went

how you went there (= what means of transport you used to get there)

when you went there *

who you went with

and explain what you did there (or, did on this trip)

Something You Would Like to Learn to Do

Describe something that you would like to learn (how) to do. (Something that you cannot do now) *

You should say:

what you would like to learn to do

where you would learn it *

how you would learn it

and explain why you would to learn to do this. *

An Historic Place

Describe an historic place that interests you.

You should say:

where it is

what you know about it

how you learned about this place

and explain why you find it interesting.

A Magazine

Describe a magazine that you like to read.

You should say:

what magazine it is

how often you read it (or, when you read it)

what the magazine is about (or, what the articles in the magazine are about)

what kinds of people generally read this magazine or newspaper *

and explain why you like to read it.
